There is also something much easier about family life when you have a proper kitchen, a washing machine and plenty of indoor and outdoor living space.
Breakfast doesn’t have to finish at a certain time.
You don’t have to get everyone ready to go out for every meal.

One of the pleasures of a summer holiday in Kefalonia is how much of the day can be spent outdoors.
At Amari Villa, the private pool is 9 metres by 6 metres and sits among the olive trees with open views towards the Ionian Sea. The pool area is gated, something families with younger children particularly appreciate.
But the pool is only part of the outdoor space.
There are large terraces around the villa and a shaded barbecue and dining area, so meals can move outside too.
Some of our favourite times at the villa are actually the simplest.
A slow breakfast outside before deciding where to go for the day.
Coming back from the beach and jumping straight into the pool.
Buying local ingredients and cooking rather than going out.
Or sitting around the table in the evening when nobody is quite ready to go to bed.
You don’t need to organise every moment of a holiday for it to become memorable.
Staying in Spartia, South Kefalonia
Of course, having space doesn’t mean you want to be completely cut off from everything.
Amari Villa sits just outside Spartia village on Kefalonia’s southern coast, surrounded by its own olive groves and countryside.
Spartia Beach is around 800 metres away, as is the smaller and more secluded Thermanti Beach. There are tavernas nearby, while Argostoli, the airport and many of South Kefalonia’s beaches are within easy reach.
We think this part of Kefalonia offers a lovely balance.
You can spend the day exploring the island and then return somewhere peaceful.
Or you can decide not to explore at all.

Think about how your group will actually live in the property for a week or two.
Are there enough bathrooms?
Can everyone eat together?
Is there shade outside during the hottest part of the day?
If you are travelling with younger children, is the pool gated?
Can different generations find their own space?
Is there a washing machine and a properly equipped kitchen?
How far away are the beach, shops and restaurants?
And perhaps most importantly, does the villa feel like somewhere you would actually enjoy spending time?
